\\ Short Interview: Skate43

Today I interviewed Skate43, the DJ of the one and only “Drum & Bass City” show. We had first scheduled this interview after one of his shows but he simply ran off! Today I was lucky enough to catch him in the Wadio Chat, let’s see which answers he had to my terribly difficult questions. Lora: Hi Skate43, welcome!

Skate43: Hi Lora! Shoot those questions.

Lora: First of all could you tell us a bit more about yourself?

Skate43: Sure, I’m Tom. I live in Belgium, the land of the fries, chocolate and beer. To be honest, I live in the Belgian Beer City, being Leuven. I’m almost 18 years old and I’m studying Office Management at school. I love computers, photography, music (in particular Drum & Bass). I’ve been listening to Drum & Bass for 5 years already. Ihave a lot of friends that are DJ's with great mixing capabilities, mine are rather 'limited'.

Lora: Did these DJ friends inspire you to become a Wadio DJ?

Skate43: Not really, actually. I wanted to become a Wadio DJ because I want to share my music style and everything around it with people all over the world. The idea of becoming a Wadio DJ only came when it was relaunched. I think a few years ago, I would have found myself 'too young'.

Lora: I see. Drum & Bass has become hugely popular and you wanted to spread it more?

Skate43: No, I didn't want to spread Drum & Bass to make it more popular. Actually, I do not like it when a music style become more popular because of the disadvantages. When a music style becomes too commercial, it’s more about the big bucks rather than about quality. So I try to find popular artists as well as new producers to give them a shot as well.

Lora: What will you do if someone requests a song which doesn’t fit in the show or someone requests a Drum & Bass song which you do not like?

Skate43: Well, if it doesn’t fit in the show, I’ll briefly mention it that I won’t play that request. If a Drum & Bass track is requested which doesn’t fit me, I will still play it because the show isn’t for me, but for the listeners!

Lora: When does the show air and do you plan on airing more?

Skate43: The show airs every Friday starting at 7PM (GMT). So for the UK it's 8PM for West European countries it's 9 PM. The plan is to either make my Friday show longer or schedule a second show during the week. This all depends on the listeners, because of course I do it for them (and a little for my enjoyment).

Lora: Do you have something else to add?

Skate43: Well, I just would like to thank everyone who has been listening to my shows from now on! And thanks to you for attending them as well and thanks for the interview!

Lora: No, thank you for being my interviewee!
